Healthcare marketing still condescends to patients

Reassurance beats authority. A brand willing to say plainly what a product does and does not do earns more long-term trust than one that hides behind clinical language.

Most healthcare and wellness marketing in this region makes the same mistake: it assumes credibility comes from sounding clinical. Dense claims, borrowed lab imagery, a doctor in a white coat pointing at a chart. None of it is designed to be believed. It is designed to look approved.

The trust gap this produces is well documented and has not closed. A 2025 global survey of over 12,800 patients and members of the public found only 18% trust pharmaceutical companies a lot, compared to 40% or more who trust government research bodies and healthcare institutions. The industry's own research on physicians shows what actually closes that gap: reputation, not clinical claims, is the top factor influencing prescribing decisions, outside a medication's functional profile, according to a 2024 industry survey of healthcare providers.

Patients and consumers, especially the younger, more health-literate population across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, see through borrowed authority instantly. They read reviews, they ask in WhatsApp groups, they compare notes with family. A brand that talks at them in clinical language it does not need loses to a brand that talks to them plainly, including about the limits of what a product can do.

The gap between what a brand claims and what a patient actually experiences is measurable, not a matter of opinion. Plotting belief against real buying and treatment experience shows precisely where the two diverge, and that gap, not the clinical copy, is usually what is costing the brand trust.
